Another Update, and Some Feedback

Thanks to a very generous anonymous donor, The Laptop Project was able to provide *like new in box* laptops to 24 struggling single parents.

With permission, we are reposting this thank you from one of our recipients

“I’m so grateful for the laptop, and I’m really looking forward to it. I work from home and my current Chromebook is very old and isn’t working well. I need it to be able to do my job and support my family. I’ve been saving up to get a new laptop but other expenses keep trumping the laptop need. Simple things like new shoes for my child, or a car repair, end up dipping into the fund. What having a new laptop would mean to me is that I would finally be able to breathe a little bit easier knowing that I have a computer that doesn’t freeze on me and my work doesn’t constantly get lost or destroyed. It would be a load off my shoulders.

Thank you for this incredible initiative. I never would’ve imagined that there was someone out there who was thinking about my families needs in this kind of way.

Even the fact that you’re out there doing, this helps me feel a little bit more supported and eased the emotional burden of being a single mom of four children.”

2023 Year In Review

I am proud to announce we ended 2023 having given out 380 devices.

This means we have given out 2207 devices since we started tracking in 2015!

Thank you to everyone who has helped make this possible.

FINAL COUNT FOR 2022!

It’s my pleasure to announce that we gave 411 devices out last year!!

And we’re already at 22 for 2023.

For those keeping score at home, that’s 1,848 devices given out since we started tracking our numbers in 2015. Considering we’ve been doing this since 2006, I can’t imagine how high the actual number is.

Updating You All

Hi there. It’s been a while since we updated here. I will be better about that.

We are very active updating people on Facebook, but not here. I will aim to improve.

I’d like to share our statistics for the last 3 years:

in 2020 we gave out 411 devices, and 199 in 2021.

With 2022 almost over, 403 are out the door with a few more planned.

People/Groups we have given include: Schools, the housing insecure, assisted living residents, refugees, and domestic abuse survivors.

Distance Learning & The Laptop Project

For over a decade The Laptop Project has been giving technology to people in need. Now, in light of the current medical crisis, we’re needed more than ever. Social Distancing means our children need computers or tablets in order to attend school, to say nothing of adults who need to work from home. We have been contacted directly by several schools looking for our help. Our supply does not match our demand.

We are actively looking for older devices, working or not working, that can be repaired or turned into Chromebooks. We are currently seeking laptops or all-in-one desktops from as far back as 2009. We are also seeking tablets or smartphones.

We have drop-off locations throughout the US, with a central office in Teaneck, NJ. The Laptop Project  is a recognized 501(c)3 (This was made possible by a grant in memory of Sarala Ginzberg z’l). We are able to provide a tax letter for your donations.

If you can help, please reach out to info@thelaptopproject.org

Laptop Project in 2019 (and 2020)

Hi there. Been a while since we updated here. Our Facebook page has been very active, but of course not everyone goes there.

2019 was an exciting year. In December we were chosen as a charity for a local Stop n Shop’s community bag program.

We also gave out a whole lot of machines. How many? A total of 135. That includes smartphones, tablets, and of course, laptops. Machines didn’t just make it to the NY metro area, but travelled to places like California, Illinois, Kansas, Canada, Israel, and even the Ukraine!

Additionally, we’ve already given out our first 5 gadgets for 2020.

For those keeping track at home, that means we have given out 856 devices since we started tracking in 2015 (we gave out oodles more before then).

Could 2020 be the year we break 1,000?

With your help, maybe! Please keep us in mind if getting rid of any laptops, tablets, all-in-ones, smartphones, or MP3 players. Please note devices should not be older than 2009. Also we do not take printers, fax machines, scanners, or servers.

It’s Been a While

I’ve been very good at keeping our Facebook Page updated, but not as great here. Sorry about that.

We capped off 2017 with 152 devices given out.

We slowed down a drop in January (a wedding happened), but we still have given out 82 devices and should be up to 90 by the end of the week.

Thank you everyone for supporting us.

Some Great News — Seeking help to distribute large donation of laptops

In October, The Laptop Project received a huge donation of used Dells from iRobot in Bedford, MA. Thanks to them, we were able to bring our 2017 numbers up to 102 devices distributed.

We are currently looking for donations of funds to buy chargers and hard drives for these Dells. We want to ship to two different schools.

The Laptop Project Is Ready to Wrap Up 2016

Spent a lot of time in my workshop this weekend. that resulted in TWENTY-NINE devices, stacked up on my dining room table, ready to be picked up by volunteers to distribute/ship this week.

Gonna be a happy Chanukah/Christmas for some people, all thanks to supporters like you.

An Update on Metrics

I’m absolutely thrilled to let you all know that we’ve given out 182 devices as of September 2nd of 2016. That’s on top of 2015’s 130 (and however many we did before we started tracking things). We also have another 15 machines ready for pickup, and a 17 person wait list.

A thought: On average, we end up with one good laptop out of every four given. That means that in 2016 alone, we’ve handled over 850 laptops. So Far.

Now wonder I’m so tired all the time.
